CHARACTER
Name: Guy Cecil (Gailardia Galan Gardios)
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Age: 21
Timeline: After reuniting with Luke post-Akzeriuth and rescueing the abducted Ion and Nataila from the Oracle Knights in Daath, around the time the group landed the Tartarus in Keterburg Bay for repairs.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A

Personality:

From the outset, Guy is a friendly and hard working young man who is extremely fond of fon machines and other pieces of technology and is occupied as a servant of the Fabre household. He has a great deal of patience and a surprising variety of knowledge at his disposal-- a trait that is lampshaded time and again within the canon by repeated requests for him to explain something for Luke or the rest of the characters, as well as the audience at large. He is quite the charmer-- if on accident-- which has caused him problems several times in regard to a barely controlled case of gynophobia that is so bad that he can't even touch a woman without going into a knee shaking, heart pounding panic. Despite his gynophobia, Guy openly admits to liking to talk to and look at women...leading to questions about how Guy feels about 'leading girls on' with his smile and personality. These traits, while they seemed like just a quirk of his character in the context of his job, are difficult to simply write off once he gets outside of the manor and can be seen by members of the open community.

For one, he understands things that shouldn't be understood by a man of his class and position. For another, he is far too skilled a fighter to be just a normal house servant.

His smiles and friendly nature hide layers and layers of thoughts and beliefs that have grown over the better part of the last decade to serve as a shield for a very scared and emotionally traumatized young child, one who had to witness the slaughter of his family and destruction of his hometown before he was old enough to properly begin to take his place in the world. Born Gailardia Galan Gardios, the son of a Count in the Malkuth territory of Hod, Guy is an aristocrat who gave up his position in the name of his family pride. His home was invaded by Duke Fabre on the night of his fifth birthday, and he was the only one to survive-- thanks to the women of the household who gave their lives for him, including his older sister. He was found in the wreckage, buried underneath their corpses...this event triggered both his gynophobia and his flight from Malkuth to Kimlasca, in a quest to murder the Duke's young son and avenge his family. Taking on the name 'Guy Cecil', he infiltrated the household with the help of Van Grants as a member of the staff to acheive this goal.

...only to find that he would slowly, over the course of years, rethink the concept of revenge. When Luke returned to Fabre Manor after his abduction by parties from Malkuth lacking all memories of his short life, Guy found himself helping raise the boy. The way Luke struggled against a past he couldn't remember struck Guy as insightful-- after all, there is no way that a person can move forward if they keep looking behind them. Slowly, Guy started to make peace with his anger.

Although Luke wouldn't realize it until much later, he and Guy helped raise eachother. Neither would be the same as they were without the other's influence. Though Guy's original plan to kill the boy before the Duke failed, it helped spark a strong bond between the both of them that would survive tragedy and even the worst of scenarios.

Guy admits that Luke's behavior later on, after the boy had grown into a young man, is partly his fault. He did spoil Luke, and he takes responsibility for that. And, despite Luke's behavior surrounding the disaster that became of Akzeriuth, Guy found that he couldn't abandon his friend. There was too much history between them to just throw away, even after Luke's status as a Replica and the truth that Asch the Bloody, one of the God Generals, was the original Luke fon Fabre. "That idiot is my friend," he said. He wanted to believe that Luke would change and turn onto a better path.

His loyalty works on the opposite side too-- Van Grants, born Vandesdelca Musto Fende, was originally attached to the Gardios houshold as a subordinant before Hod's destruction. It was with the help of Van that he found his feet and a way to keep living after he lost everything, and he admits that he would have followed Van's extremist plans if events had played out differently. However, Van had chosen to keep his participation in Luke's apparent abduction from Guy, later forcing Guy to choose between whose side he would stay on. In the end, he told Van that they would never meet eachother on friendly terms ever again...after all, he couldn't abandon the idiot who had unknowingly inspired him to try to live a better life.

While Guy's loyalty is his most notable trait, this can be used agianst him as well. His good nature and desire to be helpful leads to him being put into positions where he has to explain something or is otherwise ordered around. Truly, he is no leader...but, he is an excellent ally to have, and his loyalty to his cause and his word-- even if it's vengeance-- will far outlast the length of his service.

Abilities: Is your character an accomplished carpenter? Can they shoot laser beams from their eyes or travel through time? If they possess any abilities, learned or otherwise, they need to go in this section.

First Person:

[This wasn't Keterburg Bay, where Guy thought he and his friends were going to stay while they awaited for the repairs on the Tartarus to finish. Nor was this St. Binah, or anywhere else in Malkuth or Kimlascan territories that Guy recognized from his months of travel. With only a train that had already departed for the evening and a heavy gold pocket watch as his clues, Guy knew that he was for once in a situation where all of those tourism guides he had read through over the years wouldn't help.

He was quite lost. But, he couldn't remain like that for long.

Guy's inherent sense of practicality won out over all other impulses-- it wasn't safe to travel alone at night in a strange land, and he knew that panicking wouldn't get him back to his friends any faster. He simply needed to get his bearings...

Gloved fingers idly played with the pocket watch while he thought, pressing buttons and pulling up commands as a means of passing time. It was a clever piece of fontech, Guy noted. He wanted to figure out what made it tick.

It was only when he watched other people with similar pieces of tech that he realized that it was far more clever than he had initially thought.]

Ah-- excuse me. [Guy said aloud, feeling a little strange for speaking to a watch. It was later in the evening-- he had found himself a room for the night, and had a little more time to process his surroundings.] Does anyone know where I can find a good map of this place? I'd like to see what all we've got to work with.

[Without context, he would never be able to find his way back to Keterburg and find his master, like any good house servant would.]

Third Person: This is the format that will be used in rubycity_logs. This sample will be in third-person past tense, at least three well-written paragraphs, 3-4 sentences per paragraph, which will show your understanding of your character, how they think, feel, react, etcetera.
